We call it disruptive, devastating, disastrous… But this is the destruction that formed our beautiful planet. Thinking deeply about that causes me to pause and step back for a wider view of the eruptions that formed me.
Looking closely at this piece, you can see tiny bits of torn paper laid down amongst remnants from a stash of old maps; like memories intermingled with swirls of acrylic paint. I was in high school, living in the shadow of Mount St Helen when it erupted and change the landscape of my neighborhood. It was an event that left an indelible mark on my psyche and today influences my art.
